THE heartbroken mother of a Cookley man who died in a car crash on Monday has been “overwhelmed” by the kind words of people that knew him.

Rob Broadhurst, 24, from Cookley, died after his car left the A448 Kidderminster Road, near Dodford, in Bromsgrove, on Monday morning (January 2) and crashed into the stream below.

His mother, Ruth, said she had been “touched” to hear how many people loved her son.

She said: “The sheer number of condolences left on Facebook has been overwhelming and has provided us with much comfort at this difficult time.

“We have been incredibly touched to hear how loved our son was and I thank people for their kind words.”

She added: “Rob attended Wolverley High School and went on to study drama and theatre studies at Aberystwyth University where he both acted and directed plays.

“He regularly acted in productions at the Rose Theatre, in Kidderminster, both in the youth group and as an adult.

“He was currently working as a producer at the television channel JewelleryMaker, a job he enjoyed very much, and this was where he met his girlfriend Emma.”

The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this difficult time as they come to terms with their loss.

The tragedy, which is thought to have happened at around 6.45am, involved a blue Peugeot 206 which is believed to have left the road and hit a bridge in a stream below the carriageway.

West Mercia Police are now appealing for anyone who saw the incident or who was in the area to get in touch with officers.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "As a result of the collision a 24-year-old man suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time or anyone who may have seen the Peugeot, which was travelling in the direction away from Kidderminster, shortly before the incident."

An ambulance and two senior paramedic officers were called to the incident shortly before 9.45am, although the man was sadly confirmed dead at the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "On arrival, crews discovered a car in the water with a man inside.

"Unfortunately, once he was freed from the car it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene."

Fire crews from Bromsgrove and Kidderminster, as well as a Water Rescue Vehicle from Droitwich, also attended the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 and quote incident number 74S of January 2.
