HANDY-women in Bromsgrove raised £100 to help young people living on the streets.

Around 50 women turned out for Broad Street DIY's ladies event on Thursday, May 4, to raise funds for Bromsgrove's Basement Project.

Television builder Huntley Thawe gave a presentation on the night and guests were given live demonstrations on household DIY tasks.

Guests took part in a charity raffle, with prizes donated by local businesses like The Nailers Arms, Decanter Spirit and Cupitt Jeweller.

Director of Broad Street DIY Hayley Warren said: “We would like to thank all those local businesses who gave us prizes for the raffle. This meant we were able to donate the entire proceeds from the raffle to the Basement Project, to help them with the amazing work they do supporting the local community.”

A cheque for £100 was presented to Basement Project chief executive Jackie Hooper, alongside £50 from an Easter raffle held at the Worcester Road hardware store.

Jackie, who also won a bouquet of flowers on the night, said: "Broad Street DIY has been very supportive of the Basement Project since choosing us as its nominated charity for 2017.

"I was very pleased to be able to attend the ladies night because I couldn’t make it last year. The whole evening was truly wonderful and I learned some new DIY skills.”
