FARMERS looking for love are set to be herded up for a quirky new match-making event in Belbroughton, dubbed ‘speed dating for countryside folk’.

Organisers Vicky Taylor and Hannah Ludlow will host the event, called The Farmer Wants A Wife, on November 2, to help busy farmers find their soulmate.

The fun evening, which is based on a speed dating format, is also perfect for countryside people who find internet dating daunting, or struggle to meet someone special.

Miss Taylor, 37, from Belbroughton, said: “A lot of people find it really hard to meet people nowadays online, and often people are not who they say they are.

“You meet them and go on a date and they look different to their picture or they are completely different to who they said they are.

“It is hard for farmers especially as they do not have the time to meet girls.

“Our idea is speed dating for countryside folk. We will play some games and they will have three minutes to speak to each person face-to-face.

“It is a bit of fun but hopefully we can help people find love too!”

The event takes place at Belbroughton Club, High Street, Belbroughton, from 7.30pm.

Participants will arrive dressed to impress – with wellies optional – before being split into age categories where they are given the chance to talk to their matching ‘dates’.

Miss Taylor, who used to be a member of Hagley Young Farmers Club with Hannah, 32, from Halesowen, said: “We are both country girls, have horses, and love the outdoors.

“We are both single ladies too but I’m not looking for love at this event as I know too many people! We are hoping this one takes off so we can bring it back again, so maybe next time.”

The event is open to all ages and costs £10, including a free first drink.

And a second date could be on the cards for one lucky couple, as all participants will be entered into a raffle to win a meal for two, courtesy of The Vine Inn pub in Clent.
