THE winners of the third annual Bromsgrove Young Musicians' Platform (BYMP) have been announced.

In a ceremony at Bromsgrove School's Routh Concert Hall on February 24, Naomi Bazlov, age 15, won the senior category, and 13-year-old Ziying He took home the junior title.

The pair, both from Birmingham, were two of 10 finalists to battle it out in front of professional adjudicators Malcolm Green, operatic star Cathy Benson and renowned conductor Jamie Phillips.

Naomi gave a polished performance of Ravel's Jeux d'Eau and Brahms' Rhapsody in G minor, while Ziying performed three pieces, including Chopin's Etude.

Both winners have been granted bursaries for accredited providers to enable them to further develop their musical talent.

Monica Toso, chairman of the BYMP, said, “At The Bromsgrove Young Musicians’ Platform, our aim is to always ensure the highest of standards.

"The ten finalists’ maturity in their interpretation of the pieces and their performance skills surpassed everyone’s expectations - they were certainly playing well beyond their years.

"We are privileged to be part of these young people’s musical journey and we look forward to following their progress in the coming years.”

For this year's competition, the catchment area was extended to all those living or attending schools within a 30-mile radius of Bromsgrove.

Its sister contest, the Bromsgrove International Musicians Competition (BIMC) will hold its 38th competition at the Routh Concert Hall between April 3 and 7.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend, as musicians from across the globe compete for the title.
