BROMSGROVE breezed to a bonus point 24-0 victory over Rugby Lions to move within striking distance of second placed Dudley Kingswinford.

But with only four Midland One West games remaining, Bromsgrove head coach Dan Protherough believes it will be a tall order to get back into the promotion race.

He said: "We've just got to concentrate on winning our own games and see where that takes us.

"If we end up finishing third, then it has still been a reasonably successful season. What we have to do is make sure we build on what we've done this season and take it into next season".

Bromsgrove came storming out of the blocks against Rugby Lions and bagged a couple of early unconverted tries through hooker Jamie Atkin and No.8 Tom Hardwick.

But despite dominating exchanges, Bromsgrove had to wait until the second half before wrapping up maximum points with further tries from full back Chris Hooper and centre Ed Spalding, both which were converted by fly half Richard Mahoney.

Protherough added: "We started really well and enjoyed massive dominance in the forwards.

"We were marching Rugby back at every scrum but the referee wouldn't give us any penalties and instead kept re-setting the scrums.

"Conditions were freezing and as a result, the backs got cold and play became very scrappy for a while.

"We didn't get the bonus point try until about 10 minutes from the end, but in contrast, Rugby never looked like scoring against us".

Bromsgrove will be out for revenge this Saturday when they entertain local rivals Stourbridge Lions at Finstall Park
