AS Britain’s High Streets continue to struggle, many shops have come and gone from Bromsgrove High Street.

We asked Advertiser readers what new shop they would like to see on Bromsgrove High Street, and we were flooded with hundreds of suggestions.

Many readers were very keen on the arrival or in some cases return of a number of several High Street chains.

The number one favourite for a spot on Bromsgrove High Street was the budget clothing store – Primark.

With the closest Primark store more than five miles away in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre in Redditch, residents are crying out for a store closer to home.

Also, many readers suggested Next, TK Maxx, Wilko and M&S.

Despite the next suggestion not being a shop, readers are calling for a McDonald’s to return to Bromsgrove.

The town centre branch closed in 2007 and since then the closest restaurant is on Worcester Road in Wychbold.

Proposals were submitted to Bromsgrove District Council back in 2017 for a McDonald’s drive-thru on Stourbridge Road car park.

The plans are still yet to be decided on.

Another reader wants to see the return of an Oxfam bookshop, Melanie Stewart said: “Bring back the Oxfam Bookshop.

“I volunteered there for five years, and it was a loved shop by so many.

“The rent being too high was the reason it closed, it was taking too much from the profits and so Oxfam closed it down.

“They will not run unprofitable shops, but I still miss it, as do so many of our regulars. It was a wonderful shop.”
