AN award-winning gymnastics academy in Bromsgrove is looking for a new premises after being forced to close its waiting list.

Starbound Gymnastics Academy, based at Basepoint Business Centre, opened in 2017 and each year has grown in popularity leaving around 200 children on the waiting list.

The club has taken the decision to close its waiting list and is desperate to find a new training base.

Head coaches, Marie Carrigan and Gemma Buchanan said: “It’s a lovely problem to have, but also very frustrating.

“Due to the small size of our facility, we limit our classes to 10 gymnasts.

“At the point of closure, we had over 200 children on the waiting list.

“In a larger space, we could have many more children in a class and clear the list easily.

“We want to be able to give more children the opportunity to take part in gymnastics.

“Ideally, we’d like an industrial unit or similar as we require a minimum of five metre eaves which is impossible to find in other settings such as the town centre.

“Due to running pre-school classes during the day and after school classes five days a week plus all day Saturday we really want a space we can call our own, rather than renting a hall.

“All we need to do now is find a landlord who will consider letting a unit to us.”

The club says finding a new home has been a priority since it opened, but planning permission has hindered the search.

On Saturday, April 23 14 gymnasts from the club took part in the Solihull and Birmingham invitational team and individual floor and vault championships.

The team brought home 11 medals including five silver and six gold.

Gemma and Marie said they are ‘extremely proud’ of the children as ‘they work so hard and it’s lovely to see that it’s paying off’.
