SPECSAVERS in Bromsgrove helped to raise more than £1,000 for charity by taking part in Macmillan’s Longest Day Golf Challenge.

Last month, Mike Walker who works at the branch on High Street took on the 24-hour challenge, joining store director of Specsavers Worcester and Malvern, Alan Richards, Specsavers Malvern optical assistant Dean Taylor, and friend Martin Cole.

Teeing off at 4:30am at Ravensmeadow Golf Club in Worcester, the team played 72 holes of golf across four consecutive rounds, managing to avoid the forecasted storm.

The Specsavers colleagues covered more than 21 miles and played their final hole at 8pm.

“It was a brilliant day for it – we were very lucky with the weather,” said Mike.

“We’re so pleased with our fundraising total and would like to say thank you to everyone who donated or supported us in any way.

“We’d also like to thank Ravensmeadow Golf Club for kindly covering the green fees for the day too.”

The team’s JustGiving page raised £1,087 for Macmillan Cancer Support, doubling their initial fundraising goal.
