TWO Bromsgrove sisters have raised more than £3,000 for breast cancer charities in tribute to their late mother.

Kim Parks, aged 37 and Karen Perry, aged 41 held a huge charity event at the start of the month at Stoke Prior Sports and Country Club in honour of their mum Lyn who died 32 years ago.

Lyn was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was just 28 years old and had a single mastectomy then chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

After around one year of treatment, Lyn was told she has secondary breast cancer.

Kim said: “She threw herself into fundraising, fancy dress pub crawls and charity discos. She had so much support from her friends and family.

“We want to continue what our mum started.”

Their first event held in 2019 raised £4,000 for breast cancer charities.

Kim added: “We had set ourselves a target of £2,000 for our event this year and we are pleased to say we raised £3122.80.”

The event included a raffle, auction, a bouncy castle, a slush machine, breast cancer glitter tattoos and a live band, the Institutions, performed.

A volunteer from Breast Cancer Now also attended to give a talk about how people’s donations can help the charity.

Kim said: “Fundraising has been emotional and overwhelming for us.

“We have had so much support from the local community, friends, and family. It’s just fantastic.

“So many local and wider businesses have donated raffle prizes and auction prizes.

“It took nine months of preparation for the event, a few tears, and a few hurdles.

“We can’t wait to see where our fundraising adventure will take us, it’s hard to believe we have raised over £7000 so far doing two events.

“We are so pleased and grateful for all the support we have around us.”
