A Worcestershire social worker has been nominated for a national award.

And a team of county social workers have also been nominated at the National Social Work Awards 2023.

Angell Phoenix, who is part of the county council’s the Mental Health North Social Work Team, is in the running for the Newly Qualified Adult Social Worker of the Year award.

She is being recognised for her achievements within her area of work, supporting people with mental health needs.

The award nomination is for those with less than one year’s experience who have made a positive difference to the lives of adults through their outstanding work.

The Adults with Learning Disabilities South Team are nominated for the Team of the Year, Adult Services award.

The Team of the Year award is for all social work teams who have made a difference through their work with adults, carers and other professionals.

The Learning Disability South Team consists of support staff, admin staff, advanced practitioners, social workers, and social care workers.

Each member of the team has contributed to them being nominated for this award.

Councillor Adrian Hardman, cabinet member for adult social care at Worcestershire County Council, said: “We are absolutely delighted that both Angell and the Learning Disability South Team have been nominated for an award.

“Our staff and teams always go above and beyond to support the people in Worcestershire.”

Mark Fitton, director of people directorate, added: “I couldn’t be prouder of our staff for getting this recognition. Well done to everyone, you are a great example, and this is more than deserved.”

Award entries opened in April and closed in June. After a judging period, the nominations were released highlighting those social workers who have made a real difference to others’ lives.

Teams and individuals were nominated across 18 different categories.

The winners will be announced at an award ceremony which will take place in the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London on Friday, November 3.

An ‘Overall Social Worker of the Year’ will be crowned during the ceremony.
