BROMSGROVE'S Conservative parliamentary candidate Bradley Thomas is set to face another vote after an "irregularity" was discovered in his selection process.

The Conservative Party has said that a confirmatory vote will be held by members of the party.

Mr Thomas, who previously served as leader of Wychavon District Council, was announced by the Bromsgrove Conservatives as their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) back in August.

He was selected after Sajid Javid, the current MP for Bromsgrove, announced earlier this year that he would stand down at the next election.

However, the Conservative Party head office has confirmed that another vote will be held to decide Bromsgrove's PPC.

A Conservative spokesperson said: "Due to an irregularity in the selection process, a confirmatory vote will be held by members of the Conservative Party to confirm the adoption of the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Bromsgrove Constituency."

Mr Thomas has been approached by the Advertiser for comment, but he is yet to respond.

A local Conservative member, who did not wish to be named, said they were "very surprised" that a confirmatory vote is being held and that they "don't see the point" of it. They described Mr Thomas as an "excellent candidate."

The member said they were informed that the vote is set to take place on December 14.

Back in August, Mr Thomas said he was humbled and thrilled to be selected as the Conservative candidate.

He said: “As a Worcestershire native I’m looking forward to campaigning across the entire constituency in the county I call home.”
