A local charity has been bringing some festive cheer to young families across Bromsgrove this month.

Members of the local business community joined staff and volunteers at The Basement Project to spread joy over Christmas and to help alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by families.

The charity kicked off the festive season with a Santa event on Monday, December 18, with staff dressed up as elves and the 'drop-in' lounge at The Basement Project decorated with fairy lights to create a magical experience.

Santa posed for photos with the young guests and there was a range of activities for them to participate in.

Community fundraiser, Kelly Turner, said: "It is wonderful to see the positive results that can be achieved when people come together to support families who are living in crisis.

"The lasting effect of these initiatives extends far beyond the festive season."

One of the highlights of the event followed a successful toy appeal that saw an overwhelming response from local businesses including Pure Gym, MKM Building Supplies, Meadow Park Football Club and Butcher's Block.

The companies, along with members of the public, all held toy appeals where more than 100 gifts were donated to The Basement Project, which were then given to children at the Christmas event.

Staff and customers from the Basepoint Business Centre also donated a large quantity of 'festive goodies' whilst The Basement Project organised 190 food parcels for local families with electrical contractors, Barrie Beard Ltd, helping to transport the food.

Around 125 of the parcels were distributed via ten local schools on December 12 and 13 with the additional 65 food parcels being donated to young people receiving support from charities and refugees.
