JUNIOR RUGBY: Droitwich under-16s 7 Silhillians 16.

DROITWICH hosted the long awaited match with Silhillians to see who would go through to the next round of the North Midlands Cup.

As you would expect it was a close match, with both teams probing from the start for the positional and tactical advantage of the first score.

First points were scored by Silhillians when Droitwich conceded a penalty, which Silhillians opted to kick the points.

The half then became a positional game with both teams looking to kick the ball deep into the oppositions half to set up a scoring opportunity, which fell to Silhillians to scramble over in the corner for the first try of the game.

Not to be outdone, Droitwich pressured from the restart with some of their best moves of the game, allowing Sam O’Brien to take advantage of some loose defending to sprint in for Droitwich’s first try, which George Bishop converted for the extra points.

The half ended 8-7 to Silhillians.

The second half was a game played in the Silhillians side of the pitch, with Droitwich looking to gain the next score and Silhillians defending their lead.

Against the run of play Silhillians took an opportunity and broke through to score their second try in the corner, extending their lead to 13 points.

From the restart Droitwich pressed to close the gap, restricting Silhillians to a kicking game to relieve the pressure being exerted by Droitwich.

Unfortunately, every time Droitwich pressed, unforced errors kept giving Silhillians the opportunity to clear their lines.

Finally, as the game came to a close Silhillians had the opportunity to convert a penalty which they duly did to close off the game.
