IT was a double celebration at the Victoria Ground on Saturday.

Officials of Bromsgrove Rovers and All 4 One Engineering were present to open the re-furbished stand behind the goal.

And two club stalwarts showed off awards given them by the Southern League.

All 4 One completed work on the covered terrace three weeks ago.

It included replacing the existing metal structure with newer materials and putting on a new roof, as well as painting the stand.

Rovers began links with the Redditch-based firm last season and All 4 One have now become major sponsors, also helping to set up the new club website at www.bromsgroveroversfc.com

Two club stalwarts were recently honoured at the annual Southern League dinner.

Club president Charlie Poole and secretary Brian Hewings were given awards for their continuous service to the club.

Charlie, 79, has served Bromsgrove Rovers for over 60 years, latterly as chairman and club president, His first job at the club was to help lay the drainage pipes for the pitch and he has carried out almost every duty possible since then, still working in the club office on matchdays.

Charlie, who also used to referee and served 20 years on the Worcester County Football Association, said his favourite memory of his time at Bromsgrove was the Bobby Hope years, including finishing second in the Vauxhall Conference in 1993.

Brian, 67, has been football secretary at the club for 30 years , during which time he has experienced the highs and lows of the Rovers.

He started as club secretary in the Southern Midland Division and saw Rovers become runners up in the then Vauxhall Conference, winning the league cup twice.

Brian said his other highlights were travelling to Bournemouth, managed by Harry Redknapp, and Northampton, under John Barnwell, in the FA Cup.

He said: “I have enjoyed my time at Bromsgrove, the good times and the bad, footballing wise and hope there are plenty of years of success still to come.”
