NEW members to Curves gym in Bromsgrove have contributed to a donation of 64 and a half stones of non-perishable groceries to Feed the Children (UK).

In an interesting effort at fundraising, gym owner David Yli-Juuti decided to waive the new members' signing up fee and instead ask for a donation of a bag of non-perishable groceries such as packets and tins.

The gym teamed up with its partner branch in south Birmingham to gather the huge haul of groceries, which was handed over to Feed the Children this week by manager lisa Yli-Juuti.

Lisa said: "We thought this was an unusual way to fundraise for Feed The Children. In return for waiving the joining fee, new members were asked to donate a bag of non-perishable groceries instead. The food will now be shipped out to the communities that Feed The Children serves. In Africa it costs just 17p to feed a child a day or £5 a month and so this food will go a long way to meet Feed The Children’s targets.”

Joy Cartwright, regional fundraiser for Feed the Children, added: "We rely on local organisations and companies to support the work of Feed The Children and it is great to be involved with such innovative ideas to support our quest for funds.”
