Sajid Javid elected as MP for Bromsgrove

The Bromsgrove candidates The Bromsgrove candidates

BROMSGROVE voters have elected Conservative candidate Sajid Javid as their Member of Parliament.

Townsfolk went to the polls on Thursday, May 6, to choose who they wanted to represent them in Parliament.

After the votes were counted in the early hours of this morning, (May 7) the result was declared shortly before 4.30am.

It was announced Mr Javid was elected having received 43.69 per cent share of the ballot, and polled 22,558.

And Mr Javid was celebrating after increasing Miss Kirkbride's 2005 majority to 11,308.

His closest rival was Labour's Sam Burden, who received 11,250 votes.

Mr Javid said: "The fact we have increased the majority - it is a resounding verdict.

"I never took anything for granted and worked to get every vote.

"I now want to fight for the things local people want."

In a dignified speech after the declaration, Labour candidate Sam Burden wished Mr Javid the "best in the future".

Speaking to the Advertiser/Messenger Steve Morson, UKIP candidate, said he was "surprised" by the result, while Bromsgrove Independent Conservative Party candidate, Adrian Kriss, said he was pleased with the votes polled, as he had stood to give people a choice in the election.

The overall turnout was 71 per cent, up from 67.80 per cent at the last election.

Congratulations to Sajid. The people of Bromsgrove have now spoken, They increased the majority of the conservatives. Perhaps now Mr France will see what the people of Bromsgrove think of him and shut up.
With the amount of "Friends" on facebook he has (1172) and only 336 voted for him!. What does that say?.

surprised he got in considering how racist the people of bromsgrove are

Well done, Sajid. This is a vote that tells us what the people of Bromsgrove actually want. It is a blow against racism and a blow against the Independents, many of whom all hit below the belt.
I now hope that we are not going to be insulted with claims of 'fixing' and thatSajid will be allowed to do the job that we have voted for him to do.
France has now failed to be elected as councillor, parent governor and MP. Perhaps he should try to gain success by seeking it via the route of employment instead.

Jim I think this just shows how racist Bromsgrove isn't!. It looks like it was the tiny minority that had a vested interest in the election. On various websites all the racist comments where coming from "people who had Bromsgrove's interests at heart"????.
It comes to something when someone who was BORN and grew-up in England and has worked very hard is slated for something he isn't. Narrow minded comes to mind.

Lets hope he does find some form of employment, because Bromsgrove needs some well longed for peace and quiet.
Quite agree Andy as rumours of mosques scaremongering people and encouraging youngsters to racist tendencies was a underhanded dirty political move too!

Result! Thank goodness...... and surprise surprise one candidate still has to reveal somewhere the truth about his conviction! Trustworthy? I think not.

I have read and heard enough these last few weeks to know that racism IS endemic in Bromsgrove but I will concede that there are also many decent and fair residents here, too. I am worried about the younger generation, many of whom seem to actually flaunt their ignorance, influenced by the internet.

Flippingheck, I think it was the fact that he was only prepared to admit the truth (his version) when he could turn the story into a tear jerking melodrama that made me view him with suspicion. He obviously couldn't manipulate the electorate in print. The only thing missing at the Council House meeting was someone playing the violin!

My worry now is what Mark "Anthony" France will turn his attention to next? What worthy cause will he hijack to service his own narcissim?

Sally Patch says...

Anyone 'normal' would cease their quest for fame at this point. Parent Governor - fail. Councillor - fail. MP -fail. At his age, it's all wearing a lttle thin. There isn't a lot else he can do with his life. He sees his role in life as some sort of 'saviour' and the options are running out.
He will, without doubt, be looking for his next worthy project. He likes one that is flavour of the month and, even better, already set up and ready to run. Little more than a con man. Beware!

this is ridiculous, the only reason he was given this seat was because it is a safe seat. MPs are supposed to be representative of the people.

Sally Patch says...

Excuse me? Over 22000 votes don't lie. It wasn't a 'safe seat' was it when Adrian Kriss was going to 'show them the business'? Bromsgrovians had the right to vote for their preferred candidate. And they did overwhelmingly.

I have a request for Sally Patch, Andy Bayliss, Louise Marnell and Flippingheck. Now that our town has voted in Sajid Javid, could you please treat the other candidates (especially the independents) with a little respect? They may not have had much of a chance of winning, but at least they were prepared to stand up for what they believed in. Not many people would take such a financial and personal risk. They also did not have the benefit of a large campaign team, the opportunity to get their message across in the media, nor the funding for numerous glossy flyers and adverts from a large party machine. It is easy to be vindictive whilst remaining anonymous, and despite your numerous accusations of racism, I would suggest that what you have displayed over the last few days is little more than playground bullying and from supposed intelligent adults, that is quite sad. I just don't understand why you are continuing to be so obnoxious. As for Sajid, I sincerely hope he does as he has promised and works hard for our town. However, I suspect the next time I shall see him in our high street will be in four years time when he is seeking re-election.

In this election, Bromsgrovians would have voted for the Conservatives if Mickey Mouse was standing.

Sally Patch says...
10:53am Sun 9 May 10

What is very sad is the total lack of respect shown to Sajid throughout the entire campaign.
What I also find extremely sad is that someone was prepared to ask Sajid '7 Questions' when the questions were only posed as criticisms and not because they were actually prepared to give Sajid the right of reply.
The insults are continuing, shown by the 'Micky Mouse' insult. I also see that Sajid is already being judged after only 3 days as our MP by the following snipe.
'However, I suspect the next time I shall see him in our high street will be in four years time when he is seeking re-election.'
After accusing me of being insulting to the people of Bromsgrove, I think it very insulting to accuse Bromsgrovians of being gullible enough to be taken in by 'glossy flyers'. All 22,000 plus?

What goes around, comes around.

Just as we said.

Bromsgrovians would vote for a donkey as long as it had a blue rosette pinned to it.

But who else could they vote for? The fear of Labour is understandable and the LibDems have no track record in power.

The small parties have no infrastructure, money or influence.

The hurdles are set to effectively exclude all but the LibLabCon Party.

And so much for Javids religion being of no importance.

Now we find that he is being hailed by The Advertiser as "Bromsgroves First Muslim MP".

How long before we get our first mosque and the Birmingham floodgates are opened? Already nearly every pub/shop that closes down is turned into a curry house. Catshill is now like Balti Town.

The present trickle will soon become a flood.

You can't say you weren't warned Bromsgove.

Stan Francis!!!. Hiding behind a false name. Harry-ca-nab LOL. Emma you said about us hiding behind names and we need to give the independants a break. Well for your info my name strangly enough is Andy Bayliss and I do live in the Bromsgrove district and every comment I make is in my name because I have nothing to hide.!!
I will show the two independants respect when they show the people of Bromsgrove respect and stop stirring and hiding behind many names.

Bullying Emma? That sounds familiar!
Perhaps you should read the threats and abusive that have come our way for the last ten months nearly.
Then spout playground bullying of the independants.
Do not sit there and judge me when you have no idea what you are talking about.
Emma you must fail to realise respect is earn,t not given and by no slim chance has Mark France (and don,t bring the other independants into the equation), earn,t any respect from me.
I,m sure we could have all requested donations from members of the public to fund a campaign to stand as MP, but to be quite honest most of us have more SELF RESPECT than
pretending we are something we are not and taking the public for a ride especially in these times of financial hardship for some people, who do go out and earn a living.
As for remaining anon, my name has always been posted with my comments.
And will continue to be as long as someone is charading as a saint yet
is full of deciept.
I don,t know about you, but i was always taught to stand up for whats right and just. And do that i will as long as i live and breath.
As for your comment about Sajid Javid why don,t you just wait and see.
You appear to have had questions for him and was willing to make your feelings known on here yet not to the man himself. How odd!

If you have a letter printed in the Advertiser (a slim chance as the letters page is dominated by the same writers with the same opinions every week and one regular poster doesn't even live here) then your letter is printed in 'Your Say', named because it is a platform for anyone to have their own say. You can hardly expect everyone to agree with you.
A letter headed 'We Deserve Better' started this argument. Some agreed with the letter writer and others did not. I still maintain that Sajid was the only candidate under constant attack and that the attacks were unfair and their motive questionable. Happily, the voters made their choice and made it emphatically. Perhaps the detractors would now have the decency to give the man a chance instead of making negative statements after 3 or 4 days. Of course, anyone who didn't even give the candidate any chance to answer the criticisms and propaganda fired at him, isn't going to have the decency to even give him a fair chance.
As for France, I predict another change of colours. Green Party next?
Sajid could be the best MP in Bromgrove's history but some people will pick holes and find fault, no matter what. He obviously has not got a mandate to give Bromsgrovians absolutely everything they want. He is an MP and not a miracle worker but a 'fair chance' would be a good beginning.

..sorry Mr Baylis, not guilty, as already said I cannot spell and use too many caps??..also as already said on Facebook I am also too old to make comments…..as Emma says, you can throw it but you cannot accept it back, but I am yet again being drawn in and that's what I will no longer do...and anyone sending out hate mail to certain failed candidates, well that's of course sick as this is what's happening at present and has gone direct to local Police, perhaps one of the people reading this can answer that question, hope u used gloves before you wrote those words?..as Emma says, people have spent £500 to try and THEY did the walk, some cannot get off their bottoms away from their PC. The man the people wanted has been selected to change Bromsgrove for the better, I wish him good luck in getting the changes we need and so we start afresh, there's much that needs attention to, but he alone won't sort out the deficit which will affect us all, he's not involved in any cabinet decisions as I speak so he will do as he is told, hope it's the right things that's all...he did say he wasn't responsible for local issues to start with, a few (no names)on these chatboards supported that reply and said it's up to the local councils, but then he changed for some reason or other and said he 'would' attend to local issues, but (on this chatboard) the people that supported him on not dealing with local issues, have become quiet now, I suppose it's hard when u are a follower and u are not told in advance of the change in the constant direction of the people u follow(puppeteer), but why should these people do that, why is because you are not even known to him, unless he seeks out your ballot paper and if u were found, you would be ignored!
There's five years to go, let's see what he does for us all, he'll be on four times the amount of most of you on money, the tax was low this year due to the election, do we get a (2003) increase of 27.50% next year now?...will the people on here then change their names from Andy Baylis to Sally patch and vicer versa, who KNOWS(caps at the end for one certain person?)

Tobyhenry. I have just hurt myself laughing.
You can't even answer in your own name!.
I am more than willing to have my fingerprints and dna taken because I must have licked the envolope.
As I have repeated in many posts everything I do has my Proper Name, (the name given me at birth) on it. On facebook, this site and anywhere I post you will find my name
All the best

Stan, you are delusional. You have hounded other candidates from the beginning of this campaign. You have joked about setting fire to a building with a councillor inside. Now I would definitely call that a step too far. You say you wish Sajid 'good luck' yet Ken left the election before the results were announced and without shaking hands with the winner. You are the person who gives it out all the time with your bile and hatred towards many others, particularly women. You are a misogynist and a peddlar of ugly rumours and distortion.
You simply cannot bear to think that there are many people who do not share your blinkered attitude and beliefs. I only post here under one name. Get over it.

I now sign off...NO MORE YOU SAD LITTLE PEOPLE!...hope u get your spliffs regularly when the man that looks after u in a few years comes around to your cell?

Hounding candidates! Hypocrite!
Who needs to ask the electorate , i thought the election was over?
Cells? really! you do think up some fairy tales!
Spliffs never touch the stuff mate!
I like to be fully aware of my senses thankyou very much. Unlike others from what i hear.
However we won,t go there without proof now will we, because thats just hearsay. Never go on just hearsay.
