BROMSGROVE MP Sajid Javid has met with Justice Secretary Ken Clarke, and the Prisons Minister Crispin Blunt, following the escape of suspected killer John Anslow.

Anslow escaped after the prison van he was being carried in was ambushed in Hewell Lane in Tardebigge, between Redditch and Bromsgrove, on Monday morning.

The 31-year-old, who is from the Tipton area, is one of five men charged with the murder of Richard Deakin, who was shot dead in Chasetown, Staffordshire, in 2010.

He was charged on January 18, and was on his way to Stafford Crown Court when he was sprung.

The MP said: “I met with the Justice Secretary and the Prisons Minister to discuss the ambush in Tardebigge and to convey to them the concerns of my constituents. “I was pleased that they confirmed to me that there would be a comprehensive investigation into this incident and the lessons that can be learned from it.

“I would urge local residents to exercise caution and not to approach the escaped prisoner, John Anslow, under any circumstances.”

Mr Javid added: “I am confident that the police will deal with this matter swiftly, and I will do all that I can to support their efforts.”

Anyone who sees Anslow should not approach him but ring 999 immediately.
