A FUNDRAISING coffee morning is being organised in Rednal in memory of a mum who lost her nine-month battle against cancer.

This Friday's event is part of Macmillan World's Biggest Coffee Morning. It is being organised in memory of Linda Ann Thompson, who lost her fight against ovarian cancer in April this year, at the age of 58.

Her daughter, Annette Lougheed of Larch Drive, Rubery, promised she would raise awareness of this type of cancer.

"I owe a huge thank you to Macmillan, in particular Ellen McInnes, my mother's Macmillan nurse," said Annette.

"Cancer was a huge shock to our family. The Macmillan support enabled us to quickly implement what we needed to do to help mom through her illness, and supported us in the choices we all made during mom's end of life days.

"Mom died at home with her loving family around. Macmillan gave us the confidence and support to carry out those choices. Macmillan is about caring not only for their client, but for those around that love them."

Annette added: "My mom's death was never going to be easy to deal with or be a part of, but I feel that under the circumstances we did the best we could have ever done for her."

Linda, who lived in Hollywood, was treated at the Alexandra hospital, in Redditch, and supported by Macmillan at Primrose at the Princess of Wales Community Hospital, in Bromsgrove.

The coffee morning is being held at Our Lady Of Perpetual Succour Parish Centre, in Leach Heath Lane, Rednal, from 9am.

There will be coffee, tea, biscuits and cakes, plus a grand raffle, book and plant stall.
