VISITORS to a Free Time Club at Copcut Court sheltered housing unit in Droitwich were treated to a performance of Christmas songs by children from Chawson First School.
The five, six and seven-year-olds were part of the school’s key stage one choir, which meets up for two voluntary practice sessions every week, and learned a number of Christmas carols and other seasonal songs especially for their performance.
More than 40 youngsters went along to a session of the Free Time Club for over 50s organised at the housing unit.
Trudi Purser who works at Chawson First School, said: “They sang about 10 Christmas songs, with a mixture of traditional carols and other Christmas songs. Then we came back to school and stayed after school, and all the parents of the choir children were invited in and we did a performance for them as well.
“One of the residents said ‘It just took me back to when I used to sing at school. I used to love it.’ I thought if they made that lady happy it’s lovely. The children loved it. They were given squash and a chocolate lollipop, and after we sang they went to speak to some of the residents. They just think it’s lovely, and the children were just so enthusiastic.”
