More than £2,500 worth of items stolen in Barnt Green burglary

POLICE are investigating a burglary at a Barnt Green house in which more than £2,500 worth of items were stolen.

The property, in Hewell Road, was broken into between 6.30pm on Saturday, (January 12), and 1.20am the following day.

Thieves smashed a window to gain entry, while the householder was out, and took jewellery including gold chains and necklaces, watches, bracelets and earrings.

Specific items included a gold chain with amethyst pendant worth £250, another gold necklace with a hexagonal pendant which has a red stone in the centre and diamonds around the outside, also worth £250, a gold necklace with pendant featuring a mottled, red stone, worth a similar amount, and a pearl necklace with emerald stone at the front, worth £440.

The offenders also stole a 32-inch Toshiba flat-screen television, a Hauwei laptop, and some cash along with a black leather purse.

Jewellers and other businesses who buy second hand goods are being asked to keep an eye out for the items stolen as police believe the thieves may try to sell them on.

Detective Constable Tony Flannagan of Bromsgrove CID said: "Any burglary is distressing for the victims but in this instance there has been additional upset for the owner as the jewellery stolen was of particular sentimental value.”

DC Flannagan added officers had also been gathering CCTV footage and leafleting neighbouring homes warning them about what happened.

Police urge Barnt Green residents to ensure their homes are secure, and contact officers immediately if they see or hear any suspicious activity.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call DC Flannagan on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident reference 44-S-130113.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
