A SPECIAL guest from the past dropped in on a Bromsgrove school to talk to pupils about a famous failed expedition.
An actor playing Sir Ernest Shackleton visited the year three pupils of Bromsgrove Preparatory School, in Old Station Road, to talk about the sad story of the doomed expedition on his ship Endurance, in 1915.
The youngsters also visited the school’s Old Chapel to research and sketch the famous sledge from Sir Robert Falcon Scott’s fateful Terra Nova Antarctic Expedition, which began in 1910 and ended in tragedy in 1912.
It was all part of the children’s current study topic; Ice Worlds.
Anna Stead, from the school, said: “Bromsgrove School is fortunate to hold the sledge in the school’s museum collection.
“Captain Scott used Siberian husky sled dogs in his attempt at conquering the South Pole.
“The school was one of many schools who sponsored a husky and was lucky enough to obtain one of the few surviving artefacts from the famous expedition.”
