A NEW society has been set up in Rubery dedicated to the celebration of the nation’s patron saint.
Rubery St George’s Society has been formed to help organise the village’s celebration of St George’s Day, on April 23.
The society’s main aim is to encourage the celebration of the patron saint, and increase the knowledge of his story and background.
Rubery traders are being encouraged to take part in a window dressing competition using flags, bunting and pennants.
Windows should be dressed from this Monday, April 15, with judging being held on Friday, April 19.
Judges will be looking for a colourful display in a St George's Day theme.
A St George’s Day dinner has also been organised by the society.
The event will be held at the Old Rose and Crown Hotel, Rose Hill, Lickey, from 7pm.
On the menu will be a traditional English roast four course meal, plus coffee.
Tickets are priced at £17.50 and can be purchased from John Horwood at Kennedy’s Mica Hardware, in New Road.
Alternatively call John on 0121 453 3304.
