PUPILS at a Bromsgrove school enjoyed the role of political reporters as they put the town's MP on the spot ahead of May's election.

Sajid Javid, who is also the current Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, was quizzed by pupils at North Bromsgrove High School on Friday, (March 13).

During the Question Time-style session pupils quizzed him on educational issues close to their hearts like tuition fees and retaining creative subjects on the curriculum.

Some of the 50 sixth formers from the School Drive-based school also took the opportunity to ask about the future of the town’s Artrix theatre.

Mr Javid’s visit was part of the Speakers for Schools programme that sees prominent figures taking part in interactive assemblies across the UK.

Mr Javid said: “I was delighted to speak with students at North Bromsgrove.

"They were on top form with their questions and I felt privileged to hear about their ambitions for the future.

"Speakers for Schools is a great initiative to help inspire our young people and to broaden their horizons.”

Mr Javid also spoke to students about his educational background and the steps he took to become Bromsgrove's MP.

North’s headteacher David Hadley-Pryce said: “The students enjoyed the chance to put some probing questions to Mr Javid.

"I think we’ve got a few budding Jeremy Paxmans on our hands.

“It was a timely visit because many of our upper sixth formers will be able to vote for the first time in May’s general election. I’d like to thank Mr Javid for taking the time to visit - I hope he enjoyed it as much as we did.”
