THE confidence people in the West Midlands have in their ability to stay on top of their debt has improved, according to a new report.

According to a review of the consumer credit market by PriceWaterhouseCoopers, one in seven (14 per cent) of consumers in the region is worried about their ability to make future debt repayments.

This is a marked improvement on last year, when 20 of people were concerned about staying on top of their debt.

The report found that consumers in the West Midlands are less worried about their job security than in the previous survey in August 2013, with just seven per cent worried they may lose their job in the next 12 months, compared to 13 per cent in 2013.

A total of 27 per cent expect their pay to be frozen or decreased in the next 12 months, down from 32 per cent of people in 2013.

The survey also shows that only five per cent in the region depended on credit to pay for essentials such as food and household bills in the past six months, which is a very slight reduction from six per cent in 2013.
