BROMSGROVE MP has welcomed new figures that show the number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) in the town has continued to drop.

New Office for National Statistics figures show 207 fewer people claimed JSA since this time last year, with 30 fewer people than last month.

Sajid Javid, the town's MP who also serves on the Cabinet as Business Secretary, also highlighted figures showing since 2010 the number of JSA claimers had fallen by 793 - a drop of more than 50 per cent.

Nationally, Prime Minister David Cameron said there were "mixed messages" from data which found the jobless total was up 15,000 to 1.85 million in the three months to May.

Mr Javid said: "With 207 fewer people now claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance than just last year, it’s clear Bromsgrove business is growing and more families are starting to feel the security of a regular pay packet.

"Of course there is more work to do and I am already planning my next jobs fair, but this is welcome news for many of our friends and family."
