PARENTS, pupils and staff from Bromsgrove School were treated recently to a masterclass on how crimes are investigated.
Specialist Tristram Elmhirst, who has worked on a number of police forces in forensic units, brought his talk, ‘the Scientific Investigation of Crime’ into the school, covering the a number of aspects of forensic science including DNA and fingerprints, as well as how forensics can eliminate people from investigations, or prove them guilty, and how fingerprint analysis has been used by Scotland Yard since 1904.
Head of UCAS and careers at Bromsgrove School, Zia Leech, said: “It was an excellent opportunity for the students to gain super-curricular experience, which is so important when applying for university, developing knowledge outside the curriculum, and broadening current and future subject engagement. Criminology is certainly a field which has caught the eye of students at Bromsgrove School over the last few years with pupils going on to study the subject at a range of universities.”
