A SCHOOL in Bromsgrove has ranked in the top 10 nationwide for this summer's International Baccalaureate results.

Bromsgrove School achieved an average mark of 39.1 out of 45, making it the 9th highest scoring school in the UK.

The diploma requires students to study a variety of subjects including maths, English, a language, a humanities topic, arts and science, while also carrying out independent research for an extended essay.

Dr Michael Thompson, director of the IB programme at the Worcester Road school, said: "We are absolutely delighted by the average of 39.1 which places us amongst the very top IB schools in the country. This is a demanding course and students and teachers have once again excelled."

All pupils succeeded in the diploma, and half received formal recognition for their bilingualism.

The majority will begin their undergraduate studies at Russell Group universities, with a few others taking on degrees abroad at Chicago, NYU Abu Dhabi and the University of British Columbia.
