NURSERY children in Rednal joined millions of people from across the world in marking the Indian festival of light – Diwali – last week.

Youngsters from Jellybabies Nursery and Pre-School honoured Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, by crafting homemade lamps from clay and tealight candles.

The children also sampled an Indian-style taste table and made decorations using Rangoli patterns to mark the festival, which was celebrated on Thursday, October 17.

Nursery manager Jacqueline Walker said: “We feel that it is very important for children to learn about and celebrate a wide range of festivals in a fun and interactive way.

“The children had great fun acting out the Diwali story which gave us the opportunity to talk about the victory of good over bad, and how we need to be kind to help others.”
