ENTERPRISING students from North Bromsgrove High School are celebrating after scooping two awards at county trade fairs.

The 11 sixth form students, who formed the Young Enterprise company Connect, won first prize at the Worcester cathedral trade fair in November and came a close second at Bewdley. The group, who have high ambitions, are hoping to continue their success in 2010 with the goal of reaching the national finals.

Despite the credit crunch, shoppers battled the Christmas crowds to purchase products from the group’s range at the trade fairs. The Worcester trade fair was the group’s first opportunity to take their products to market.

Connect impressed the judges with their “enthusiasm and really interesting and successful products.”

The products, which were inspired by the school’s ASDAN group – awards scheme development and accreditation network – include children’s storybooks and audio CD books complimented by a range of paint-your-own character jigsaws, along with seasonal jigsaws.

The products have been produced in conjunction with local company Lasercomb Dies, utilising the company’s waste materials.

Dave Crowther, link tutor, has been involved with the Young Enterprise scheme for a number of years.

He said: “Young Enterprise is an opportunity for the students to learn by doing and I am so pleased that Connect have already been rewarded for their hard work by coming first and second at their first trade fairs.”
