GREEN-FINGERED residents have helped to spruce up Rubery as part of a spring clean event.

The Big Spring Clean saw volunteers spring into action for the event, held on March 19, which is designed to make Rubery a cleaner place to be.

New flowers were planted into the village beds, hanging baskets were planted and donated to shop fronts, park benches were re-painted and the watercourse in St Chads Park was cleaned.

Graffiti was also removed from alleyways, media boxes and street furniture.

These areas were focused upon after the local community highlighted them as what they most wanted to influence in their neighbourhood through the clean up operation.

The improvements will now be monitored and maintained by various responsible authorities.

The Rubery Big Spring Clean was funded by the Bromsgrove Community Safety Partnership and organised by Bromsgrove District Council’s Community Safety Team, with help from Rubery Neighbourhood Watch, West Mercia Police and West Mercia Probation Service. Representatives from all were hands-on during the day.

Bromsgrove District Council’s neighbourhood warden, Lee Pitchford, said “It was great to see so many volunteers on the day, especially the families.

“Lots of people out shopping commented on the improvements we were making and some of them joined in with us, by planting a few pansies or by picking up some litter. The day went really well.”
