RUBERY residents attended the opening of its new market last Friday and raised money for a soldiers charity in the process.
The village has been without a market since it was destroyed by fire many years ago.
Last Friday, November 11, the new Victorian-themed indoor market and cafe was opened by Bromsgrove District Council civic head Caroline Spencer.
The hall was opened at the special time of 11.11am, as the date was 11/11/11.
As it was Armistice Day, the Help for Heroes charity, which helps servicemen and women wounded in Britain's current conflicts, was made the chosen charity for the market for the next year.
Money raised through the sale of coffees on the opening day has been donated to the charity.
