BROMSGROVE’S MP rolled up his sleeves when he became a volunteer for the day at a town charity shop.

Sajid Javid became a volunteer at the Cancer Research UK shop, in High Street as part of national volunteers’ week, being held this month.

He was supported by Sue Hughes, who has been a volunteer at the shop for the past 10 years.

Sue began volunteering after her brother-in-law was diagnosed with a rare type of blood cancer, which took his life in 2005. She works on a regular basis at the shop, and is a familiar face for customers.

Mr Javid said: “It’s inspirational to meet volunteers who give up their valuable time to contribute to the smooth running of this busy shop.

“I’ve been lucky to have an experienced volunteer like Sue to show me the ropes.

“Meeting her proves just how vital it is that the local community continues to help raise vital funds to help beat cancer.”

Mr Javid encouraged townsfolk to clear out their wardrobes and cupboards of unwanted clothes, CDs, DVDs, books and quality household goods, and donate them to the charity shop which always need them.
