VETERANS in Sandwell who have never had their medals and badges presented to them, or would like them presented again, are urged to get in touch ahead of a special ceremony on this year's Armed Forces Day.

Oldbury Civic Square will play host to an Armed Forces Day event on Saturday June 27.

A parade, starting at 11.30am, will be followed by a free family event from 12.15pm to 4pm.

The parade will set off from Low Town car park and make its way along Birmingham Street to the Civic Square.

The mayor of Sandwell will present medals and badges to veterans during the ceremony.

Other activities and entertainment will include a drill by air cadets, bhangra music and dhol drummers, songs by Maggie O'Hara, music by Ukulele Union and children's rides.

Any veterans who would like their medals or badges formally presented should call the Mayor's Parlour on 0121 569 3041.

Anyone who thinks they are entitled to one of the HM Armed Forces Veterans badges should call the Veterans UK helpline on 0808 1914 218 or email VeteransBadges@mod.uk or veterans-uk@mod.uk to apply.

Second World War veterans who served on the arctic convoys and in the Bomber Command can also apply for their badge before Armed Forces Day by calling the Veterans UK helpline.
