A FEMALE police officer hurt her face during an incident which saw a man leap from Upton bridge into the river today.

A man has been arrested following the incident in Upton at lunchtime today.

It started at 1.35pm when police were called to reports of shop theft at Marks & Spencer in Roman Way, Malvern.

They located the suspect just after 2pm on the main bridge in Upton but he attempted to get away from officers by getting out the vehicle and jumping into the river Severn.

A police spokesperson said: "A police officer has been injured during the incident with minor injuries to her face. The man was arrested at 2.15pm."
