IN DECEMBER, Bromsgrove and District Flower Arrangement Society welcomed 39 members and six visitors to their Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Christmas demonstration.

This was a very special meeting for the group, as chairman Jean Ward is standing down after many years in the role.

Members say Jean has been an amazing chairman, and following the AGM, their incoming chairman, Chris Harten, presented her with an engraved silver cake slice and a framed photograph as a memento. It was also the committee’s wish that Jean be made an honorary member of the club in recognition of her sterling service.

Following the AGM, seven members – Suzie Carter, Pam Gattas, Jean Govier, Joy Mason, Sue Savage, Lesley Vanezis and Maureen Westwood – gave a fun Christmas demonstration.

They entered the hall dressed as the seven dwarfs, resplendent with elf hats and stick-on moustaches. Each of them demonstrated a Christmas- themed arrangement simultaneously, while Chris Harten compèred and talked to each in turn about their designs.

Everyone enjoyed the demonstration and agreed that the arrangements were wonderful.

The group’s next meeting will be held on Thursday, March 20 at 2.15pm at All Saints Church Hall, Bromsgrove.

The demonstrator will be Tony Brown, a national demonstrator, and his theme will be Paradise in a Garden.

After the demonstration, there will be a raffle of the demonstrator’s arrangements and tea and coffee will be served.

This month’s flower arrangement competition will be entitled Just Three Flowers.

There will also be the usual flower of the month competition when members are given the opportunity to enter a flower from their own garden.

Entrance at the door is £5.50 for visitors.

New members and visitors are always welcome.
