SUSPECT we will hear a report from our MP telling us about the wonders of the Chancellor’s budget and how we will all feel the dramatic effects of a small economic recovery very soon.
Unfortunately, no doubt he will forget to mention that residents in Bromsgrove and Worcestershire will suffer exponentially because of massive cuts to public spending where our most vulnerable residents will be hit the hardest.
The county council has had its funds cut dramatically, meaning huge cuts to supporting the most vulnerable in our society.
A penny off a pint isn’t going to provide day care for a disabled resident, it won’t give a carer respite at a weekend or ensure domestic abuse victims receive the support they need. It won’t ensure villages won’t be cut off when bus subsidies are cut, it won’t help sheltered housing tenants, often on low and fixed incomes, who are now forced to pay extra costs because of cuts.
Yet again the vulnerable, disabled and low paid are making the sacrifices. Cut grants to vulnerable and elderly people, tax their spare rooms or remove their public transport and you are living in the real world and making tough choices – propose taxing bankers’ bonuses and freezing energy bills and you are living in a fantasy world.
But what about our local MP? Has he been leading the fight against these cuts in his own back yard? His silence on the issue has been deafening.
Things will get worse for many in the short term and it’s despicable that in this budget, when they could have done something about it to help people, both the Chancellor and Sajid Javid did nothing Chris Bloore Bromsgrove district councillor for Sidemoor
