I ATTENDED the Marlbrook Tip Cross Party Working Group at the Council House in September.

Representatives from the Environment Agency were also present.

At the meeting, it was confirmed the pond on the tip is officially a reservoir and comes within the terms of the Reservoirs Act. This means the earth banking around the pond is now classified as a “dam wall under construction” because it has never been signed-off as complete by a qualified engineer.

We were told a new approved construction engineer will have to be appointed soon to undertake a survey of the reservoir and produce a report. This could take up to six months to produce before we will know what action, if any, needs to be undertaken.

At the public meeting in February, we were told the report from a panel engineer in March 2013 required the tipping of a further 300mm of restoration material together with other works to ensure the safety of the tip. The change in the situation now means this report is no longer applicable.

Once again, time passes and the tip saga continues.

The Marlbrook Tip Cross Party Working Group meetings are held at the Council House. They are open to members of the public.

The next meeting is not expected before the end of October.
