BROMSGROVE Sporting manager Paul Smith wants to keep his Les James Challenge Cup winning side together for the 2015-16 campaign.

The Rouslers ended the season on a high last week when they defeated Southam 3-2 at the Banks's Stadium to seal the silverware.

It completed a season where Sporting finished second in the Midlands League Division One.

"The players deserved to win something this season, they were the top scorers in the league and conceded the least number of goals," commented Smith.

"But they have been a tremendous group to work with all season, they have shown spirit kept going and I am delighted for them.

"It was a tight game and it could have gone either way but we responded well when Southam scored a fine goal to take the lead.

"But we kept the faith and Sam Wills managed to fire home the leveller and Josh McKenzie fired us ahead.

"I am also delighted for the fans, they have been fantastic from the moment I took over and supported the team even when we had the blip in January."

Louis Bridges had fired Southam into the lead, but Reece Hewitt had equalised.

Lee Thomas' fine strike had edged Southam ahead in the 74th minute but two goals in as many minutes by Wills and McKenzie sealed the win.

Smith is set to hold talks with chairman John Teece before taking a short break, with the preparations for pre-season stepping up.

The manager said: "I will sit down and talk with the chairman in the next couple of days about a few things.

"I am taking the players away next week but when we come back we will start planning for next season.

"I want to keep the squad we have but players like Reece Hewitt and Josh McKenzie are already receiving interest from other clubs and there's nothing we can do about that."
