BARNT Green Under-13s were celebrating after defeating Brockhampton to win West Midlands group of the ECB U-13 National Club Championships.

Success last week means Green’s young guns have progressed to the finals day at Oundle School , Peterborough, after winning the regional semi-finals and finals day in Derbyshire next week.

The tournament saw four clubs from Nottingham, Hereford, and Staffordshire, all of whom had won their respective county cup and a further round to reach the last four in the Midlands.

Up against Radcliffe-on-Trent in the semi-final, Green lost the toss and were put into bat.

On a slow outfield, only George Homer with a breezy 20 was able to get going as Green were bowled out for just 48.

But Radcliffe were kept to 46-8, with Pearce Childs (2-9) and Stewart Greenhalgh (3-3) in good form with the ball to seal a two-run ball victory.

That set up the final against Brockhampton and Green powered to a 40-run victory.

Once against the team was put into bat but made a bright start with Fergus Roll (17) and 17 Hayden Froggatt (30 not out).

Green had made 96-9 in 20 overs, despite tight opening spells from Brockhampton’s bowlers.

A six-wicket haul from Bilal Khan then saw Brockhampton dismissed for 56.

An exciting day and the adventure continues at the finals day at Oundle School, where the six regional winners will compete over three days in a round-robin shoot-out.
