PAUL Oakes wants Fairfield Villa to turn good displays into results after a 3-1 defeat to Midlands Division Two leaders Chelmsley Town last Saturday.

The joint-manager felt his side more than matched the table-toppers, who boasted a greater cutting edge.

Villa fell behind straight from the first half’s kick-off but James Finn levelled the scores.

But Chelmsley scored again just before the break and the home side added a third in the second half.

Oakes said: “We fell behind after 20 seconds but credit to the lads, we didn’t let our heads drop and were more than a match for Chelmsley.

“Unfortunately, they scored just before half time and then added on a third.

“At the moment the performances have generally been very good, but we need to turn those performances into results.

“I must say Dan Wilkes was the best player on the pitch, he controlled the game.”

Villa’s hopes of signing ‘keeper Kenny Sanders were dashed. They had put in a seven-day bid for the Cadbury Athletic shot-stopper, who has decided to stay at the Birmingham club.

They have signed VBG Fairfield midfielder James Lennox-Gordon.

Villa take on local rivals Feckenham on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
