ALVECHURCH boss Ian Long insists that nobody at Lye Meadow is getting carried away following a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend for the club.

After beating local rivals Bromsgrove Sporting 4-3 in the FA Cup last Saturday, the Church followed up with clinical 3-0 success over next door neighbours Redditch United in the Southern League Central Division.

Long said: "We're getting a few players back and it's beginning to make a difference. But nobody here is getting ahead of themselves.

"The FA Cup win was great, but for me, it's all about staying in this division and I look at the Redditch victory as three more points ticked off. I'm just looking at getting to 40 points, that's all.

"The game against Bromsgrove was a great contest from our point of view but I was a bit disappointed by the size of the crowd. Maybe some of the Bromsgrove supporters realised that we always beat them and didn't bother turning up."

It was Bromsgrove who took the lead through Josh Quaynor but Church hit back through Josh March and Luke Yates.

Richard Gregory levelled from the penalty spot before Tom Turton converted a couple of penalties to clinch victory before Nathan Hayward netted Bromsgrove's third.

The Church have now been rewarded with a short trip to Stratford Town in the first qualifying round

Alvechurch came flying out of the traps against Redditch on Monday and went a goal up within 29 seconds through David Bellis.

Joshua Ezewele made it 2-0 on 11 minutes before Jordan Mills put through his own net on 20 minutes while under pressure from Kieron Cook.

A delighted Long added: "I told the players before the start of the game, that if we could get ahead early on, then Redditch might implode in view of their recent results and that' s more or less what happened.

"I knew that Bromsgrove were complaining about the referee on Saturday but if anything, we had the worst of the decisions.

"There was certainly a situation in the game where Bromsgrove should have had a player sent off and the evidence is on the video for all to see.

"But I imposed upon the players not to use the referee as an excuse for losing."

Alvechurch entertain Needham Market this Saturday with David Bellis, Ryan Winwood and Kyle Morrison all expected to start.
