A STOKE Prior based Sunday football team has found itself in the top 20 of a national competition which compares performances from games across the country.

Members of Stoke Works FC are taking part in the Lucozade Sports Performance League which compares the results of 80 teams and calculates their points average based on results, games played and goal difference and produces a league table.

Works, who play at Stoke Prior Sports and Country Club, compete in the MG Sportswear Bromsgrove and District Football League, and are currently 11th in the Performance League table with 251.67 points.

The league splits into four separate divisions at Christmas, with prizes for the teams winning each one at the end of the season including the opportunity to play at a premier league stadium or VIP tickets to game.

They are also competing in a virtual cup competition based on the results of over 1,024 teams, with the last eight getting the chance to play on a knock out basis at a top ground.

Stoke were one of thousands of teams who applied to join the league when manager Andy Wild heard an advert on talkSPORT radio.

When accepted, they received a new kit, a supply of Lucozade products for each game, a team testing day and nutritional fitness and skill advice from current and ex players.

It is the team’s first season in the Bromsgrove and District League.

In addition to the team doing so well, striker David Penn is currently sixth out of 683 people in the Golden Boot league.

Stoke beat Churchfields FC 6-2 in their last league game and then beat Holloway Park FC, also 6-2, in the WA Harris Cup, with a hat-trick from David Penn and one each from David Hewitt, Adam Malpas and Alex Crawford.
