MEMBERS of Bromsgrove Sporting have fixed a date for a public meeting during which the group will outline its plans for a new club.

The group wants to safeguard the future of football in Bromsgrove and made a failed attempt to take over Rovers when their offer was turned down by administrators Sanderlings.

They want to set up a new club - using either the Victoria Ground or another venue as a ground - under the Bromsgrove Sporting name, and have already been accepted in principal into the Midland Combination for the 2010-11 season.

Rob McLaren from the group said the meeting would give people the chance to come along and hear the aims of the new organisation and how they hope to achieve them.

He said: “It will also give them the chance to get involved if they want to because we can certainly tap into the skills and experience of football loving people from Bromsgrove.

“The Bromsgrove Sporting group encompasses businessmen and people with experience of non league football and what it involves.

“But most of all it is made up of people who have an association with Bromsgrove Rovers and don’t want to see the famous club go off the football map altogether.”

The meeting will take place at Lickey End Working Mens Club, 17 Alcester Road on Friday February 12 from 8pm.

Meanwhile, Green’s boss John Snape will have options available for the tough looking trip to fourth placed Burnham on Saturday (3pm).

Rapinder Gill and Marlon Walters are back in contention and Paul Lloyd is returning from holiday on Friday.

Snape is also hoping to re-sign JJ Cole from Evesham in time for Saturday’s game.

Cole started the season at the Victoria Ground before linking up with the Southern Premier outfit.

A young looking Rovers outfit beat Stourport Swifts 2-1 last Tuesday, with goals from Ryan keen and Jack Connelly, but then went down to a 2-1 defeat at home to Woodford United, only Dexter Ravenhill scoring a consolation.

Snape said: “It was s a poor performance, probably our worst of the season and so disappointing after we played well against Stourport, where we were on top most of the game.

“It will be nice to have some options for a couple of tough away games coming up and we will be looking to put things right,”
