BROMSGROVE professional Kevin Dickens will be hoping to win a shot at the Senior Open Championship when he takes part in a qualifying tournament on Monday.

Dickens will play for his entry into the main tournament, which will feature worl class players like Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langher, Gordon J Brand and Tom Watson.

But he faces a tough challenge at Downfield, near Dundee, with a top ten finish essential in a field likely to number over 300.

Dickens, who turns 50 just before the Seniors Open begins on Thursday July 22 is confident in his ability and feels he will qualify.

He said: “I’m going up there to get in the tournament and hopefully a top ten finish in qualifying will be good enough, though I am aiming to win it.

“If I can get into the seniors proper then I will be one of the youngest competitors at 50 and again I am confident of a good showing because tournaments are what I am focusing on.

Dickens will be taking part in a warm up tournament this week in Longniddry and hopes a good showing over two weeks in Scotland will help him in his bid to get a place on the Seniors Pro Tour of Europe.

Dickens is looking for sponsorship to meet his expenses of playing on the Seniors Tour and can be contacted at kevdickens@gmail.com
