BROMSGROVE bike racer Jake Clark finished the bank holiday weekend with two ninth place finishes at Oulton Park.

Clark is competing in the Hel Performance British Motostar Standard Class Championship and round two took place at the Cheshire circuit.

Under bright blue skies the 15-year-old completed ten laps in the first free practice session finishing 10th overall.

In the afternoon free practice Clark improved reducing his lap time he wasn’t able to improve in the conditions as much as some of his rivals. At the end of the first day he had slipped to 15th with a lap time of 1.50.581.

The glorious weather continued on Sunday as 39 bikes across the GP and standard classes took to the Cheshire circuit for qualifying. Jake Clark was quickly out the pits and managed to complete a total of 12 laps with a best time of 1.50.898. This was good enough for him to start ninth in his class.

The Sunday race was in the afternoon and as the lights went out Clark launched from his grid position but got sandwiched into the first corner and had to back off. This meant the front group had managed to already open a gap.

This left him in a fierce battle for ninth position in the race which saw positions change throughout the race. At one point he ran wide and dropped down to twelfth before battling back. He crossed the line in ninth.

In the second race, Clark again lined up ninth in his class, with grid positions based on the fastest laps in race one.

The Wilson Racing rider made an excellent start moving up to sixth on the first lap. As the race went on Clark came under increasing pressure in what is a really competitive class. He eventually ended the 14 lap encounter in ninth once more.

Clark said: "I qualified ninth so in race one I was hoping to get away with the front-runners. But I had to back off in the first corner to avoid an accident and then the leaders were gone.

"We had some real close racing and I got pushed wide and had to make up the ground again. In the end I was quite happy with ninth. In the second race I made a great start and I was feeling really positive. However, as the race went on I slipped back a bit with some riders a bit more experienced than me on the braking.

"We came in to this weekend looking for a couple of top ten finishes and we got that, so I’m happy.”

The next Moto3 race for Clark will be July 6 to 8 at the Knockhill circuit in Scotland.
